Celebrity actress Amber Heard has spoken out for the first time about her defamation trial against ex-husband Johnny Depp, saying that the ‘unfair’ ruling was the product of biased social media representation’ and accused the actor of attempting to sway the jury by placing ‘paid employees and randos’ on the stand.

In a three-part interview with the Today show, which was pre-recorded on Thursday and began airing on Monday morning, the 36-year-old model spoke out about the harsh judgment against her.

The interview is the first time Heard has publicly addressed the verdict, which she previously slammed as a “setback for other women” in a statement released minutes after the verdict was read in court.

During her interview with NBC’s Savannah Guthrie, Heard lamented the “hatred and vitriol” she has encountered throughout the trial, saying it is not a “fair picture” of the case. She slammed the ‘unfair’ decision that had been taken against her.

Heard reiterated her lawyer’s claims that the jury was misled by social media, while also claiming that Pirates of the Caribbean actor’s ‘great acting’ on the stand won them over.

A jury determined earlier this month that Heard defamed her ex-husband by posting an article about being a sexual assault survivor in the Washington Post.

The actress was ordered to pay Depp $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive penalties, though the judge reduced the second amount to $350,000 under Virginia law. She was given a meager $2 million in compensatory damages, which means Depp, 59, walked away from the lawsuit owing Heard $8.35 million, which she claims she cannot afford. Heard, whose legal team has stated that she intends to appeal the verdict, also accused the jury of being swayed by her ex-‘excellent husband’s acting’ and ‘beloved’ public reputation, while claiming that Depp swayed jurors by having ‘paid employees and randos’ testify on his behalf during the six-week trial.

The celebrity said that she did not “blame them” and understood that he is adored, and that “people believe they know him.” She stated that Depp is an excellent actor.
