On Tuesday, a task force from the Cleveland division of the FBI arrested a Sandusky resident who had a stockpile of homemade machine guns, silencers, bomb making material and rifle-mounted grenade launcher. The 29-year old Ohioan was a member of the far-right militia group called   or Boogaloo Boys. He was also reportedly a member of another militia group called New Sons of Liberty.

The complaint that was unsealed on Tuesday in Toledo federal court said that Aron McKillips was charged with unlawful possession of a machine gun and interstate communication of threats. The Daily Beast, which was the first to report the news, said that he had acquired the rifle-mounted grenade launcher together with “primo cocaine” in a trade. The scheme was to kill several government officials before he was killed by the police.

On New Year’s eve 2020, police found “several hundred rounds of 5.56mm and 9mm ammunition, body armor, (an) AR-15 rifle (component), parachute flares, medical kits…and military-style equipment,” according to the affidavit.

The affidavit also said that In the next 22 months, McKillip spoke of violence in different messaging platforms. Some of his schemes included blowing up the IRS, “burning down federal buildings and shooting federal agents.” He also mentioned he wanted to “blowup Facebook headquarters” as well as big box stores such as Target and Walmart.

Neil McElroy, the attorney for McKillip declined to provide anything more than the information contained in the complaint. The attorney said that on November 8, his client would appear in court for a detention hearing.

According to a recent report by Associated Press another member of the Boogaloo Boys, Timothy Teagan will appear in federal court, in Detroit, on Wednesday. According to FBI spokeswoman Mara Schneider, the charges against Teagan will be unsealed in court.

The two arrests by the FBI have been made at a time when authorities are concerned about the potential for violence as the midterms approach.

The Boogaloo Bois is a far-right militia group. Its goal is to overthrow the government by starting a second civil war. In 2020, the members attended protests and riots. Some members promote white supremacy beliefs while others provided security at BLM protests. At least two participants at the Jan.6 insurrection are associated with the Boogaloo Bois.
