In February, the body of Angela Chao, the CEO of Foremost Group and the sister-in-law of Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, was discovered in a Texas ranch. The death was first deemed an “unfortunate incident.” Still, the preliminary inquiry led the Texas Sheriff’s office to declare on Thursday that it is now being investigated as a “criminal matter.”

Angela Chao, whose parents founded the Foremost Group, was the 50-year-old business CEO. In addition, Elaine Chao, the spouse of Republican Minority Senate Leader Mitch McConnell, was her younger sister. Before his address in the Senate well on Wednesday, when he announced his resignation as the Republican Party’s Senate leader, he had referenced Angela’s passing.

On February 11, just after midnight, Angela Chao was discovered dead. Emergency medical personnel arrived at a pond on a private ranch in Johnson City, Texas. A company corporation associated with her husband and venture entrepreneur Jim Breyer owns the ranch, which is privately held.

A woman’s body was extracted from an automobile by Blanco EMS, who then attempted to resuscitate her. At the scene, the woman, identified as Angela Chao, was declared deceased.

The Blanco County Sheriff’s Office described it as an “unfortunate accident,” but they withheld information from the media they were asked to provide. 911 logs, audio, video evidence, and other documents are examples of this proof.

The Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton received a letter on Thursday from the Sheriff’s Office stating that the death was not “a typical accident.” Additionally, it said that “releasing the reports, videos, and other information before the investigation is finished would interfere with the investigation and potential prosecution of this matter.”

Additionally, it stated that upon the conclusion of the investigation into Chao’s death, “all reports will be released to all requesters.”

Angela Chao and Jim Breyer were wed. He owns a portion of the Boston Celtics NBA team. He served on the boards of numerous national powerhouses, including News Corp., Facebook, Walmart, Marvel Entertainment, Dell, and Walmart.
