Two teens, who are suspects in the beating and killing of Rancho High schoolmate Jonathan Lewis in November, were in court on Tuesday morning. However, the judge delayed a hearing for both teens as defense attorneys required more time to review additional videos that had been provided by the state of Nevada. The teens are facing several felony charges. Four teens who have been tried as adults will be back in court on Thursday.
Attorney Karen Ann Connolly, who is representing Damien Hernandez, and Robert Draskovich, who is representing Gianni Robinson, appeared in court to file motions for their teen clients to be released from custody. However, Justice Court Judge Nadia Wood delayed the hearings for these teens.
Judge Wood said that she was going to pass the hearing to Thursday so that she could get a chance to “review the videos and witness statements.”
Later on Tuesday, Chief Deputy District Attorney John Giordani told Channel 13 that there were a substantial amount of videos that had to be reviewed.
Four teens between the ages of 13 through 15, who were also arrested in the case of the beating and killing of Jonathan Lewis, appeared virtually before family court judge Amy Mastin. The hearing was to determine whether the juveniles could be moved to adult court.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Summer Clark also wanted Judge Mastin to delay all four cases as they were still “collecting discovery” in the Jonathan Lewis case.
Judge Mastin has delayed the hearing to January.
In late November, another suspect was arrested in the Jonathan Lewis beating and killing case. This was the ninth arrest and a hearing is expected to take later to determine if the suspect would be tried as a juvenile or an adult. Only one more suspect is yet to be arrested for the brutal beating of Jonathan Lewis Jr., a former student of Rancho High School in Las Vegas. He was brutally beaten behind an alley, near the Las Vegas school on November 1 and was taken off life support on November 7. His organs were donated.
