John has had bouts of depression throughout his life, but they just got worse recently, according to Fetterman’s chief of staff Adam Jentleson. On Wednesday night, the Pennsylvania Democrat admitted himself to the hospital, Jentleson continued.

According to the American Stroke Association, depression is a common symptom among stroke survivors and may have physiological or psychological roots. Throughout the campaign, Fetterman had been frustrated by his post-stroke health issues. His inability to effectively communicate with them as well as the time he spends away from them while serving in the Senate have harmed his relationship with his family, according to CNBC News.

NBC news reported, A senior aide talked about having seen Fetterman getting “more and more reserved with staff” this week and said the “withdrawn nature of it” raised alarms among those who know him well.” “This isn’t who he was when he was early in recovery” from the May stroke, the aide said. “This is a much different beast.”

The American Stroke Association says,” Depression is a common experience for stroke survivors. It’s often caused by biochemical changes in the brain. When the brain is injured, the survivor may not be able to feel positive emotions.”

Depression can also be a normal psychological reaction to the losses from stroke.

Fetterman’s transfer to the Senate in January has been made more challenging by his stroke recuperation. He was formerly the lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania. Gisele Fetterman, his wife, urged privacy in this matter. She also posted on Twitter, “This is a difficult time for our family, so please respect our privacy. For us, the kids come first.   Take care of yourselves. Hold your loved ones close, you are not alone.”
