A former cheerleading instructor Jennifer Hawkins in Oklahoma has been charged with coercing a 16-year-old student into an extended sexual relationship that has been characterized as “manipulative and controlling” and with dating her own teenage daughter.

A district spokesperson stated that Jennifer Hawkins was fired after working part-time for Moore Public School District after the relationship with the victim came to light. The victim, who graduated from the school after the relationship began in September 2017, has since told police that he had been raped “numerous times,” alleging this in a note that he sent to district officials on January 27 from a rehab facility in California.

According to the affidavit, Hawkins took the victim home for the majority of the alleged sexual encounters. The victim showed police texts between him and Hawkins, who “got angry” with him if he glanced at other women on social media. The affidavit states that after being detained, Hawkins was accused of second-degree rape and sexual assault.

Following Hawkins’ arrest, a message from Moore Public Schools was released. The release said that the school became aware of a claim that an outside athletic coach had previously made inappropriate contact with a pupil. The Oklahoma City Police Department was called right away, and a report was submitted. The coach was promptly relieved of her responsibilities. The school said that its top priority was the children and staff’s safety and security. Officials from MPS schools will continue to support law enforcement in their inquiry into this issue.
