The family of Malcolm X has filed a $100 million lawsuit, claiming that the NYPD and other agencies withheld evidence of his murder. The New York City Police Department and various government agencies, including the FBI will be sued, according to civil rights lawyer Benjamin Crump and family members of the legendary activist Malcolm X, who was killed in 1965 at the age of thirty-nine. The lawsuit will claim that the government agencies purposefully withheld evidence of the murder after it occurred.

“The governmental agencies had factual and exculpatory evidence that they fraudulently concealed from the family of Malcolm X and the men wrongly convicted of crimes surrounding the assassination of Malcolm X.” “It’s not just about the triggermen. It’s about those who conspired with the triggermen to do this dastardly deed.” Crump said in a statement.

The civil rights activist and leader was 39 years old when he was killed on February 21, 1965, in a Washington Heights neighborhood theatre. Khalil Islam and Muhammad Abdul Aziz were both charged with the murder. Although an investigation revealed that the prosecution concealed crucial information demonstrating the guys did not commit the murder, they were exonerated last year.

Malcom X’s estate and heirs have been the subject of numerous court conflicts throughout the years.

Three of Malcolm X’s daughters, Qubilah Shabazz, Ilyasah Shabazz, and Gamilah Shabazz, launched one of the most well-known lawsuits concerning his family in 2020. They asserted that Malcolm X’s name and likeness were inappropriately utilized by Harlem’s Red Rooster pub in New York City to advertise and sell items. The complaint demanded millions of dollars in damages as well as a ban on the bar from ever again exploiting Malcolm X’s likeness or name. In August 2020, it was apparently agreed to a settlement outside of court.
