On Sunday, a jewelry store in Brooklyn with one-of-a-kind pieces was robbed. A smash and grab took place at Facets, a store in Brooklyn that sells customized jewelry. Glass cases were broken with a hammer and a gang of three got away, taking approximately $2 million worth of jewelry. The masked suspects were caught on the many surveillance cameras that were placed in the store but haven’t yet been caught.
The robbery occurred in Park Slope, around 5 p.m. Owner Irina Sulay, the owner of the store, had done business in Brooklyn for almost twenty years. She said that she buzzed in one man, but he was followed by two more. One of them removed a hammer and began smashing jewelry cases.
According to reports by several outlets, the robbers took about one hundred engagement rings that were worth approximately two million dollars. The owner said that it seemed as if they knew exactly where they had to go and that they took the expensive items and completed the heist in 38 seconds.
They took several diamond engagements rings that Facets had designed in-house. They also took Art Decor and Edwardian rings that the store had in its collection of rings.
When one of the store employees reached for a phone, she was warned that she would be shot if she moved. The smash and grab was completed very quickly, within a minute. Sulay has shared surveillance video on social media. She hopes that the video will lead to arrests. The owner also mentioned that she, along with her all-female team, were on guard. They also planned to hire a security guard.
Sulay also that they were anxious and that their doors were closed. She said that only customers who gave them a prior call were being let into the store.
Earlier, the neighborhood had been safe but other stores including a jewelry store, a newsstand, and an AT&T store had also been robbed, in the recent past.
