On Friday, Maryland Representative Jamie Raskin, who is a member of the House select committee that is investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection mocked conspiracies that tried to blame antifa for the attack as there was no evidence of their involvement. Instead he said that it was not an “Agatha Christie novel” and they knew “exactly whodunnit.” He said that Donald Trump was the “central instigator.”
The Maryland Democrat appeared on MSNBC on Friday. He also told Stephanie Rule that right-wing conspiracy theorists should “bring the evidence forward” as the bipartisan committee had not found any evidence of the involvement of antifa.
Raskin said, “It’s just impossible to think of any of this happening without Donald Trump being the central instigator of the whole thing.”
Raskin’s comments come after the final report was released by the committee that has been investigating the Jan. 6, 2021 insurrection. The report concluded that Trump had been the “central cause” of the events of that fateful day.
Raskin had a lot to say about the conduct of Donald Trump and the major role he played in the insurrection. He said that Trump was the one who made the Capitol rioters to protest on Jan. 6, the day that the electoral college votes would be read by Congress, instead of the original Jan. 21 protest date, which was one day after the inauguration of President Joe Biden.
Raskin commented on many issues about the insurrection as well as the Republicans having “quitter’s remorse” as Trump was “exposed” as the main orchestrator who tried to “topple our constitutional order.”
Former President Donald Trump also posted a long video on his social media platform Truth Social, on Friday. He mentioned that the Jan. 6 committee had distributed “lies.” He also referred to it as an “unselect committee” and a “partisan witch hunt” and much more. His video was posted before Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) mentioned that the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6, “was not an Agatha Christie novel” and they “know exactly whodunnit.”
The Jan. 6 committee made four criminal referrals for Donald Trump to the Department of Justice (DOJ). This is the first time a congressional committee has asked for criminal charges to be made against a former president.
