Trump’s tax returns have been released to the public. Trump and his wife, Melania Trump, filed joint tax returns for six years, totaling slightly more than 2,700 pages. They disclose income from a variety of companies, including golf, restaurants, and ice skating, as well as speaking engagements.
According to the release, Trump paid little in income taxes for six years, including throughout his presidency, because the IRS did not audit him.
According to a separate analysis provided by the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, which has been examining the tax forms, Trump exploited deductions to avoid paying taxes in some years, which should have been recorded by the IRS. Trump cited enormous company losses to offset his gains and so cut his tax bill.

Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, the committee’s top Republican argued a release of Trump’s tax records would set a dangerous precedent of weaponizing personal finance information. “It’s the power to embarrass, harass or destroy Americans through disclosure of their tax returns,” Brady said. “After nearly half a century, the political enemies list is back in Washington, D.C., and we worry this will unleash a cycle of political retribution in Congress.”
The Democrat-led panel published the financial documents for six years after voting 24-16 to do so last week, with little time left for action before Republicans formally take control of the House on January 3.
Democrats have long sought a copy of Trump’s tax returns, which the former president has refused to provide despite decades of precedent. In 2020, the New York Times got more than 20 years of Trump’s tax returns, revealing years of payment-avoidance schemes, financial losses, and audits that belied his image as a brilliant businessman.
However, the Times was unable to obtain Trump’s whole tax history, including the three years of information requested by Chair Richard Neal, D-Massachusetts.
