According to police and firefighters in central Berlin, a 46-foot-high aquarium containing over 1,500 exotic fish exploded Friday morning, injuring at least two persons, and sending a deluge of water and debris onto a nearby street. Guests were quickly evacuated and will be transferred to another hotel.
The AquaDom aquarium is located in the DomAquarée business and le isure complex, in the foyer of a Radisson Collection hotel. The aquarium belongs to Merlin Entertainments@MerlinEntsNews and produced by International Concept Management (ICM) HQd in HK.

AquaDom covered by Vector Foiltec Technology-The luxurious hotel building houses the AquaDom. The world’s biggest free-standing acrylic aquarium (14 meters high and 11 meters in diameter). The AquaDom aquarium containing nearly 1 million litres of saltwater forms the architectural centrepiece of the whole development. The 820 m ² roof structure above it is a special Texlon structure. It is covered by our variable Vario ® skin technology. Two layers of Texlon ® ETFE system are printed and can be adjusted pneumatically to control the amount of light transmitted through the system.
AquaDom’s owner, real estate investment company Union Investment, said, “We are dismayed at the accident and wish the two injured persons all the best and a speedy recovery. We would also like to express our dismay to our affected tenants.”
